St. John Bosco Parish with the convergence of volunteers that it attracts has seen talents flourishing in the service of the Lord.  Lester Delgado is one of these talents.  Lester is the choirmaster/conductor of St. John Bosco Parish chorale since 2001 and under his tutelage the chorale has significantly improved its quality of performance in the animation of the church’s celebrations, allowing the chorale even to share its music to Filipinos abroad in Hong Kong, China (2005-2006) and Europe (2007).

Lester, a graduate of a Bachelor’s Degree in Music for Choral Conducting at the University of Santo Tomas, brings with him experiences as a member of various chorales (PWU and San Beda) which have garnered local and international awards.  His composition “Bagong Umaga” won the grand prize in the UST Conservatory’s Songwriting Competition in 2004.

The latest feat exemplifying Lester’s talent is his compilation of original compositions for Mass, “Narito Ako” Misa Delgado Book I. First launched on Jan. 16, 2008 at the St. John Bosco Parish church sang by the SJB chorale with the accompaniment of Lester on the keyboard and a string ensemble, the “Misa Delgado” has the benefit of an official endorsement from the Archdiocese of Manila. It obtained a Nihil Obstat by Rev. Fr. Leo Nilo C. Mangussad, the Director of the Archdiocesan Commission on Liturgical Music and an Imprimatur by His Eminence Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales.

Again, to allow for greater reach to the different parishes in Manila,  a second launch was made on May 23, 2008 during the 5:30 PM mass of Bishop Soc Villegas.

Misa Delgado songs have been sung in almost all daily and Sunday masses at the St. John Bosco Parish to which parishioners and church goers have taken on familiarity with.  With God’s grace, popularity of “Misa Delgado” among the other parishes will just be a matter of time.

Compilation of the “Misa Delgado” songs is available at the St. John Bosco Religious bookstore for Php350 with a free CD.  Interested parties as to detailed scores may get in touch with Lester at 63-918-5708767 or email him at lester04_delgado@yahoo.com.
