LAUNCHING OF WILGEN BOOK II: THE SERVANT

The St. John Bosco Parish takes pride in again having another composer of liturgical music in the person Wilmer Genovia.  Wilmer Genovia, an active volunteer at St. John Bosco parish has come up with his compilation of original compositions of mass songs -- WilGen Book II: The Servant. This follows a previous compendium Book I: Mula Sa ‘Yo (mass songs in Tagalog) popularized in a number of parishes.  "The Servant'  includes: Come & Praise the Lord, Lord Have Mercy, Gloria, Alleluia (His Word is Life Everlasting), The Apostle's Creed, The Sacrifice, Holy, Acclamation (Christ Has Died), Great Amen, Our Father, Lamb of God, I Dedicate My Life, A Servant Like You, In Praise of the Lord (Psalm 117).

The Servant was launched last June 14, 2008 Saturday at the St. John Bosco Parish Church with the rendition of the songs by the CYO Unit 26 Chorale, and accompanied by the DLSU Chamber Ensemble with guests from the Manila Symphony Orchestra, UST Symphony Orchestra and Pressivos Woodwind Quintet.  All songs were orchestrated and arranged for chorale by Reginald Vince Espiritu, a De La Salle University Alumnus.  The concert launch of Wilmer's music came out to be well attended as the church was almost full of mostly young people eager to hear Wilmer's gift from God to our parish community.

FAREWELL FR. KIT

SOCIAL SERVICES MINISTRY AND THE URBAN POOR FAMILIES

The Social Services Ministry conducted an orientation on October 12, 2007 of its 300 urban poor families – families with less than P5,000 income per month.  The list of these families were drawn by the Ministry through a survey done in the community.  The activity aims to identify the beneficiaries under a Caritas Manila Inc. program where the poor family will be adopted as partners towards poverty alleviation.  The beneficiary families will be entitled to the children's educational scholarship, livelihood training and health care programs.  In turn, the families are required to attend orientation on the MAGPAS Vision/Mission of the Archdiocese of Manila and values formation sessions.  The program is one among the many programs which align the parish community into the programs of the archdiocese. SHARING SAINT MARIE EUGENIE TO THE SJB COMMUNITY

In an  extended celebration of the canonization of the foundress of the Religious of the Assumption, St. Marie Eugenie of Jesus, on September 15, 2007, St. John Bosco parish in collaboration with the Sisters of the Assumption at San Lorenzo Village had a presentation of this dear saint to our parish community.  The celebration was marked by a Mass concelebrated by nine priests at 6:00PM which was attended by alumnae and friends of the Assumption College, and our parish community.  During the offertory, one of the offerors was the child Rizza Bondoc, whose survival from a congenital abnormality was attributed to St. Marie Eugenie.  The celebration was also marked by the procession of the image of the saint at the Gallery of Saints.  After the Mass, a variety show featuring young talents trained under the Assumption College's Marie Eugenie Theater (MET) performed before the community and guests after which a simple salu-salo was served.  For more pictures please click here.

FR. TING MICIANO'S BIRTHDAY - AUGUST 15, 2007

The feast of the Assumption of our Lady coincided with the birthday of Fr. Romeo Agustin "Ting" Miciano, SJB parish Parochial Vicar and PUGAD Director.  The 6:00PM mass was celebrated with Fr. Ting as the main celebrant and concelebrating with him were Fr. Manny, parish priest, Fr. Boy Pablo, the community's rector, Fr. Renato de Guzman (from DBTI), Fr. Kit Hernandez and Fr. Marty Macasaet.  Fr. Boy gave a brief speech acknowledging Fr. Ting as a valuable member of the Salesian community in the parish.  After the mass, the community greeted Fr. Ting with a birthday song.

Fr. Ting was born on Aug. 15, 1961 in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.  While still a young boy, he has been regarded as a multi-faceted individual excelling in academics, sports and music.  His musicality was evidenced by his chanting of the prayers during the mass with a distinct timbre and character.  After his ordination in Dec. 8, 1990, he was assigned to Canlubang as spiritual moderator of the seminarians.  After two years, he was moved to Papua New Guinea where he stayed for 13 years, interrupted only by his masteral studies in education which equipped him to take on the Principal post in the Salesian high school at PNG and later becoming the co-founder and first Dean of the teachers' college of the school.  Currently, being parochial vicar and PUGAD director brings major challenges to Fr. Ting in looking after the youth of the parish being in-charge of the children's ministry, the catechism program and PUGAD's migrant young men.

CELEBRATION OF CARDINAL ROSALES' 75th BIRTHDAY

Last August 10, 2007, Archbishop Cardinal Gaudencio Rosales celebrated his 75th birthday.  The St. John Bosco Parish as its present to the dear Cardinal reiterated to the community its commitment to the Pondo ng Pinoy and enjoined everyone to continue bringing in their coin-filled bottles for the Pondo ng Pinoy as part of the Sunday mass offering.

Also, as part of the parish celebration of Cardinal Rosales' birthday, Fr. Manny Domingo, our parish priest, went to conduct feeding for 27 pre-school pupils of the Don Bosco Learning Center located at Taylo street in Makati.  These nursery and kindergarten pupils are mostly from the poor areas of the parish community.  Fr. Manny later visited three sick persons and a dead.  The sick persons were given the sacrament for the sick, confession and holy communion.  This ministry has been part of the parish commitment to care for the sick, the elderly and the differently-abled, through a regular Thursday visitation and the transport of these people to the 10:00 AM Mass every Sunday.  Click here to view pictures.
