Extra Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

 

EXTRA ORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION
(EMHC)

VISION:

Responding and living up to the call of spreading the Good News of Salvation thru the Holy Eucharist in the Name of Christ the Lord.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ELIGIBILITY:

  • A good Catholic in faith and deed

  • At least thirty (30) years old but not more than seventy (70) years old at time of application

  • Adequately literate (can read and write)

  • Physically and mentally fit

  • A non-heavy smoker

  • Spiritual Formation

    • Resides or works within the parish community or

    • Affiliated to the Christian community or

    • Recognized by the Parish Priest as a regular church-goer at St. John Bosco Parish Church

  • Preferably a member of the Adoracion Nocturna or any other organization that promotes devotion to the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

  • Not a member of other church ministries or organizations which may conflict with his service as EOMHC.

  • Male

  • Acceptable to the EOMHC Candidate Screening Panel and recommended to the Parish Priest.

  • Endorsed by the Parish Priest to the Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission (ALC) for formation.

  • With inner qualities of:

    • Faith - which enables him to look beyond and beneath the outer shell and to recognize the presence of Christ in various ways within the liturgies

    • Prayerfulness - to stand before God in a spirit of awe, reverence and dependence and

    • Spirit of Joy and Peace - by the presence of Jesus in his heart

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Always be able and available to assist in

    • Distribution of Holy Communion at Mass

    • Distribution of Holy Communion to sick, elderly or differently-abled persons or in hospitals when permitted by the hospital chaplain upon the request of the sick person or his/her family.
       

  2. Undergo and complete the basic formation program of the Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission of Manila (ALC) and supplemented by the Parish Priest.

  3. Undergo a liturgical commissioning and presentation to the Lord and to the community within the celebration of the Mass.

  4. Read and review ALC handouts as a refresher even after the seminar is over.

  5. Have his name posted on the parish bulletin boards or published in the parish newsletter upon being newly installed.

  6. Serve a minimum of three (3) Masses weekly, inclusive of two (2) Sunday Masses and arrange for substitute when he can not serve on assigned Masses.

  7. Attend regular monthly EMHC meetings every 3rd Saturday of each month at 7:00PM and special or emergency meetings as may be deemed necessary.

  8. Attend the first Friday night Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament scheduled by the Parish Adoracion Nocturna Filipina (ANF) organization.

  9. Attend yearly EMHC retreat/recollection activities sponsored by the parish during such seasons as Lent and Advent.

  10. Attend yearly one-day formation/renewal seminars conducted by the ALC.

  11. Attend the Rite of Renewal of Devotion to the Holy Eucharist, held yearly during Pentecost Sunday, and the Renewal Rite of Commitment held after the one-day yearly ongoing formation or renewal seminar.

  12. Perform other tasks as may be requested or assigned from time to time by the Parish Priest including:

    • Various rituals of services as found in the handbook "A Ritual for Lay Ministers";

    • Assisting St. John Bosco Parish priests on outside Masses; and

    • Attending other parish activities, seminars, etc.
